Augusta Streetscape Concept Plan

The Shire recently undertook consultation on several preliminary concept plans for the Blackwood Avenue main street. The consultation was well received with over 100 survey responses, verbal and email submissions, and community group submissions.

The proposed Streetscape Concept Plan was broken into two focus areas, being the Retail Strip and Intersection & surrounds. Multiple concepts were proposed for each focus area with the community asked to vote for their preferred concept and able to provide comment. The consultation has delivered clear feedback for the progression of the Streetscape Concept Plan.

View our Summary Report for a detailed overview of the feedback we received during community consultation.

Draft Streetscape Concept Plan

We have drafted a revised concept plan to reflect the feedback we received from the community.

We are seeking community feedback on the Draft Plan. To have your say, please complete the survey below.

Alternatively, you can provide feedback by contacting Stephen via email sschreck@amrshire.wa.gov.au or phone 9780 5259.

The survey closes on Monday 29 April at 5pm.

Community Drop in Sessions

If you would like to chat in person, Stephen will be in the Augusta Shire Office on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 April, from 9am-4pm.

Next Steps

Feedback from the community will be used to inform the future of the Draft Streetscape Concept Plan and identify priority actions. The final Streetscape Concept Plan will be used to secure future funding opportunities for the implementation of the Concept Plan and associated priority actions.

Depending on the amount and type of feedback we receive, we will look to have a revised version of the Concept Plan to present to the community and Council in May.

A final decision on the Streetscape Concept Plan will need to be endorsed by Council.

Augusta Precinct Plan

Along with the draft Streetscape Concept Plan, we have been preparing a new strategic plan for the Augusta Precinct. The broader precinct plan will provide guidance on:

  • Building design guidance for the town centre and surrounding residential areas, with the intention of maintaining the existing Augusta character;
  • Opportunities to improve pedestrian, cycling and vehicle access into the town centre area;
  • The redirection of caravans and long vehicles from Blackwood Avenue and potential caravan parking at the Civic Precinct;
  • An incentive to retain significant native vegetation on private lots.

We are continuing to investigate more strategic level changes which will inform our Precinct Plan, but we didn’t want this to hold up showing you the draft Streetscape Concept Plan. More information on the Augusta Precinct Plan will be release later this year.

Ellis Street Jetty Precinct

The Shire has created the draft Ellis Street Jetty Concept Plan to guide infrastructure renewal, environmental restoration, use and landscaping within the Ellis Street Jetty Precinct.

Feedback on the draft Ellis Street Jetty Concept Plan has identified the following key themes:

  • There should not be timed parking;
  • The area should be kept ‘low-key’; and
  • Currently the focus is the boat ramp, but a range of activities occur in and around the area which need to be catered for.

We will further refine the concept plan to reflect community feedback. A revised concept plan will be released in 2024 following consultation for the Augusta Precinct Plan.

Augusta Character Study

Each place in the Shire has its own distinct character and lifestyle. In order to preserve the the things that contribute to each town's unique character, the Shire is undertaking Character Studies to help identify the qualities that define each townsite within the region.

In 2022, the Augusta Character Study was finalised. Informed by consultation with the Augusta community, the Character Study provides an overview of the built, natural, and experiential qualities that contribute to the character of the town.
