Margaret River Youth Precinct
Consultation has concluded
The Margaret River Youth Precinct is undergoing a major redevelopment with over $2 million dollars of improvements planned for the site. This major transformation will see an expansion of skate, scooter and BMX facilities within the park as well as the addition of a new raised stage area for music events, parkour and play equipment, BBQ areas, shade, landscaping, spectator seating, public toilets and much more.
Thanks to Margaret River Lions, Lotterywest, community contributions and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River for making it possible to bring nationally acclaimed facilities to our region.
It’s thanks to Lotterywest retailers like the Margaret River Newsagency and Augusta Newsagency that we’re able to make this happen!

Additional furnishings approved
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkUsers of the Margaret River Youth Precinct are set to benefit from $179,000 of additional finishings when the main construction phase finishes in April 2018, thanks to an allocation of additional, and expedited funding, by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
Approved by Councillors at last week’s ordinary meeting, the decision makes way for the inclusion of a main shade structure for the Zone Room spill out area ($110,000), and nature play equipment, a slide, soft fall, turf, irrigation and additional trees ($69,000).
Shire Community Service Manager and project manager Nigel Anderson said the immediate implementation of the future staged elements during this construction works program would save funds in the longer term.
“This is a great outcome for the community – not only can those elements been delivered earlier, it will save additional labour costs associated with 'renovating’ the site at a later stage.”
Mr Anderson said the additional shading and play equipment would also make the park more usable for more people for longer periods of time and importantly connect the Zone Room with the Precinct and future commercial Cafe.
Both the shelters within the Precinct are iconic in form, the design resembling the formation and motion of a barrel wave.
Large rolled structure beams will be clad in waterproof cladding, with polycarbonate sunlit.
“I’m particularly pleased to be able to deliver the project with increased shading, both in terms of the permanent iconic shade structures and additional trees,” he said.
“It increased the usability of the site in hotter weather and provides more refuge for user and future Café patrons to take a break out of the sun.
“It’s a really responsible decision in terms of being sun safe and reducing possible of heat exposure.
“The additional nature based play and Parkour equipment is also a fantastic inclusion that will appeal and cater to a wider range of users at the Precinct.”
Shire President Pam Townshed said Council was committed to delivering an outstanding park for both the community and visitors to enjoy.
“I’m very pleased to offer Council’s backing for what will be a fantastic community precinct,” she said.
“This additional funding will take what was a great project park to a next level multipurpose facility that will really stand the test of time.”

Shovel Ready Youth Precinct
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkThe Margaret River Youth Precinct will continue its transformation with works to upgrade the skate park set to start on Monday 9 October 2017.
A viewing platform will be set up enabling residents to monitor progress and guided site tours organised at set stages during the construction period.
Skate park users are invited to say ‘adios’ to the existing Margaret River Skate Park at the Adios Skate Park Fiesta celebration on Friday 6 October, until the reopening in approximately six months’ time.
Due to grant funding shortfalls, the precinct masterplan will be delivered in stages, with the first stage toilet renovations and Zone Room access upgrades already completed.
Second stage works include upgrades to the skate park with a 3 meter deep skate bowl, new shade structure and lighting, pump track, BBQ and parkour area, as well as natured based play features.
A plan to deliver the remaining stages will be considered by Council once the detailed designs and costings have been completed.
Shire President Ian Earl asked the public to be patient during the closure and touted the improved facilities to come. “We all know how much the skate park will be missed during this time,” he said.
“Where possible we encourage you to visit our other skate parks in Cowaramup and Augusta or consider car-pooling between parents and head up to Busselton.”
“The upgrade will provide an excellent space for young people and families to spend time outdoors and will also open up opportunities to hold large-scale community events and competitions which is a fantastic outcome for our residents.”
Shire Human and Community Services Manager Nigel Anderson said he was impressed by the way design contractors, Convic, had brought the Community Design Group’s concept plan to life. “I’d like to thank all those who gave their input into the new skate park design,” he said. “There were a number of fantastic ideas put forward by the Community Design Group to ensure all users now and into the future will be served well.“Convic have done a brilliant job of taking these ideas on board and providing a robust masterplan to carry us forward.”
A number of additional features earmarked in the precinct masterplan will be reliant on public donations.
The current detailed design drawings including a 3D representation of the precinct is available on the Shire’s Your Say website.
Community members can help fund additional park upgrades donating to gofundme.com/margaret-river-skatepark.
During construction the Zone Room and Scout Hall will still be accessible to users with the Zone Room road access way becoming a no-through road.
