Project background

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is seeking community feedback on proposed differential rates and minimum payments for the upcoming financial year.

  • Proposed changes include

The proposal for 2026/27 includes a 5.6 per cent increase for residential properties.

    • the average household will pay an additional $2.48 per week, or $129 per year
    • this increase equates to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate, plus one per cent, which is consistent with the approach outlined in our Long-Term Financial Plan.
  • STRA classifcation changes

Proposed changes to the way hosted Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) properties are classified and rated.

    • Hosted STRA will be included in the Commercial, Industrial and Tourism rating category, alongside “unhosted” STRA properties (such as holiday homes) and traditional tourism accommodation (such as hotels, motels and holiday parks) and rated at higher amount.
    • This proposal reinstates the rating structure used before the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Act 2024 was introduced.
