Local Planning Strategy and Scheme Review 2018-19

Help maintain and enhance our natural and built environment.

Our Local Planning Strategy sets a vision for the size, look and feel of neighbourhoods, towns and natural areas within the Shire over a 10-15 year period. Our Local Planning Scheme is the rulebook ensuring development aligns with this vision. Over the next 18 months, these important documents will be reviewed with the help of the community.

Local Governments are required to review these planning documents periodically, to ensure they take into account contemporary planning, environmental, economic and social issues.

You can have a say in the way that future development is managed locally. Join us for a series of workshops between May and November 2018 to help shape the review of our plans for the next generation.

Workshops will lead to ‘Issues and Options’ Papers’, that will be released for community feedback, which will guide a revised Strategy and Amendment to the Local Planning Scheme.

Please subscribe to stay informed of this review and the various opportunities for community engagement!

The draft Strategy was informed by an extensive pre-consultation process undertaken over 12 months. In making their decision to support the draft, Council thanked all of the individuals and groups who have provided input throughout the pre-consultation period and encouraged the community to continue to engage in the consultation process.

We have invited those people who use our Scheme and Strategy the most (other than ourselves) to present what they see could be changed as a part of the review. Glenn Ahola, Marc Halsall and Neil Tweedie will be presenting, and it is intended that the session will be more informal than our previous workshops, with opportunities provided for attendees to put forward their ideas.
