  • Detour changes from 27 November 2020

    From Friday 27 November 2020, detour routes in the Margaret River town centre will change.

    • The section Bussell Highway from the Tunbridge Street/Churchill Avenue intersection to Willmott Avenue will open to vehicles and cyclists.
    • The section of Bussell Highway, South of the intersection with Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Road will remain closed.
    • Fearn Avenue ( from the intersection with Bussell Highway to the laneway connecting with Tunbridge Street) will remain closed.

    Detours and traffic management will be in place during this period. Please follow the directions of traffic management personnel and follow the directional detour signage at all times.

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Willmott Ave intersection)

    The final layer of asphalt is being applied to the entire Stage 2A area from the Visitors Centre up around Willmott Ave. All works will be complete by the end of tomorrow, Sat 21 November.

    We're still anticipating to open the street up to vehicles on 27 Nov, allowing access to Willmott Ave and Settlers Tavern carpark.

    What's happening next week

    • Remaining garden beds will be planted.
    • Light poles and line marking will be done.
    • You'll be able to use the new pedestrian crossings in this area, however the fences will stay up during the week until line marking and lights are complete.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • The new community tables are in (hiding under some protective plastic for now).
    • Light poles will also go in together with the structural steel arbor.
    • New bike racks have arrived on site.


    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • Crews will continue constructing kerbing and median strips up the Stage 3 area.
    • Footpath construction will also continue.

    Private stormwater connections are currently done up to Priceline and Urban Bean, with crews continuing up the street next week

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Fearn Ave intersection)

    By the end of next week the final layer of asphalt will be constructed from the Visitor Centre up to the Willmott Ave intersection!

    What's happening next week

    • This Sunday the East lane will be profiled.
    • 16 - 17 Nov - the road will be graded.
    • 18 - 20 Nov - asphalt works will create our final road surface.
    • Crews will complete landscaping and retic by end of the week.
    • The next steps will be installing light poles and line marking, commencing the week of 23 Nov.

    Access

    • There will be limited to no pedestrian crossing points from the Visitor Centre/Dome up to Riversmith/surf shops until the asphalt is done.
    • We'll then open up the new pedestrian crossings once the asphalt works have cured, leaving fences up whilst light poles and line marking is done.
    • We're anticipating to open the street up to vehicles on 27 Nov, allowing access to Willmott Ave and Settlers Tavern carpark.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • Next week kerbs at the roundabout near Coles carpark will be completed.
    • The new community table and arbor structure will be installed!
    • Light poles will also go in.
    • Crews will pour footpaths in the roundabout area linking to the car parks and public toilet area.

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • All main drainage for the entire project will be done by the end of next week, with just the private business stormwater connections to go.
    • Crews will continue constructing kerbing (which is currently up to Bankwest and Little Rascals).
    • Footpath construction will also continue.

    Works are steaming ahead with 6 weeks to go until the project is due to be complete.

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Fearn Ave)

    Here's a heads up about works scheduled in the Stage 2A area as we work to prepare the road surface for final asphalt this month.

    KEY DATES

    • 7 & 8 November - the road will be profiled and stabilised preparing the base course for installation of the road’s final asphalt layer. You can expect dust, noise and vibration whilst the stabilisation is undertaken. Fences have gone back up on both sides of the street (from the peanut roundabout to Riversmith) as there will be heavy vehicles doing work up and down the street. Banner mesh has been installed to reduce dust as much as possible.
    • 9-13 November - the stabilised basecourse will be compacted by rollers and trimmed into shape. Pedestrian crossings will be built in this area, ready for the final asphalt layer. Trees will be planted towards the end of the week. Footpaths at the Willmott Ave interserction will be built.

    ACCESS

    • There will be limited to no pedestrian crossing points from the Visitor Centre/Dome up to Riversmith/surf shops whilst the works are undertaken due to heavy vehicles doing their work up and down the street.
    • Traffic Control will be in place at the peanut roundabout to enable plant vehicles to turn around, however there will be minimal disruption to traffic flows.

    The good news is, we are getting very close to completing this project area.
    We will undertake a shop front clean (power wash) when crews have completed the asphalt works to finish this stage completely.


    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • Next week you'll see the Manchurian Pear trees planted at the Festival Precinct.
    • The footings for street furniture have been poured, and crews will install footings for light poles.
    • You'll also see structural steel fixed to footings in this area for the new street furniture and shelter!


    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • Last week the central spine was 100% completed, now drainage crews are working towards installing the last few drainage pits for the project.
    • Next week footpaths in front of Lloyds, First National Real Estate, Little Rascals, Margaret River Sweet Shop and NAB will be poured.
    • By the end of next week edge kerbing will be constructed up to Town Square, so you'll be able to see the new parking spaces emerge.
    • A crossing point opposite Town Square will be installed for the weekend.

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Fearn Ave )
    Here's a heads up about works scheduled in the Stage 2A area as we work to prepare the road surface for final asphalt.

    KEY DATES

    • 2 -6 November - construction of the median islands to Riversmith will be completed. Electrical cabling will be inserted into conduits from Target to the Willmott Avenue intersection.
    • Mid-late next week - fencing will go back up on both sides of the Stage 2A area from mid to late next week (from Riversmith/ surf shops to the Visitor Centre/Dome crossing. Banner mesh will be installed to reduce dust as much as possible.
    • 7 & 8 November - over these two days the road will be profiled and stabilised preparing the base course for installation of the road’s final asphalt layer.
    • 9-13 November - the stabilised basecourse will be compacted by rollers and trimmed into shape.
    • Week of 16 November - the final asphalt is scheduled to be constructed, exact date to be confirmed.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • Contours of the one way lane through the new Festival Precinct can be seen between the two edge beams that have been installed.
    • Crews will pour the new roundabout next week, with the road base now ready.
    • Drainage lids will be fitted to the roundabout area next week and electrical contractors will install in-situ footings for light poles.
    • Kerbing construction will continue.
    • You'll also see structural steel fixed to footings in this area for the new street furniture and shelter!

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • Exciting milestone - the central drainage spine from the top to bottom of the street is 100% complete.
    • Crews are working on the footpaths in front of the Margaret River Hotel.
    • Next week footpaths in front of the Coles arcade to Bob's Shoes will be demolished and reconstructed.
    • By the end of next week all underground services and edge kerbing will be constructed up to Priceline on the West side of Bussell Highway.
    • All below ground services and edge kerbing will completed up to Little Rascals on the East side of Bussell Hwy.
    • Drainage crew will start installing side entry pits on the East side of the road.
    • All electrical and communications conduits will be installed past Priceline.
    • A crossing point opposite Town Square will be installed for the weekend.

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Fearn Ave)

    • Median strip construction and installation of reticulation to the garden beds from Settlers Tavern car park towards Fearn Avenue is ongoing.
    • In the next two weeks you'll start to see plants going in!
    • Crews will begin constructing kerbs at the Willmott Ave/Bussell Hwy intersection.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • Crews continue to work on the foundations for the new Festival Precinct, compacting the road base to get levels correct.
    • Next week the first road seal under the new roundabout will go in, allowing crews to 'box out' the shape of our new roundabout ready for concrete.

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • This stage is tracking well with the central stormwater system pipe installed up to Goodfellas Cafe..
    • Crews are continuing to connect stormwater pipes from businesses into the new stormwater system moving up the street from the Willmott Ave/Bussell Hwy intersection.
    • A crossing point opposite Town Square will be installed for the weekend.


  • Town Square Activation!

    Businesses in Town Square have joined forces, and successfully applied for a Main Street Activation Grant to help keep Town Square vibrant during the works.

    Grant money has gone towards hiring tables, pot plants and outdoor umbrellas, creating a little oasis amongst the construction.

    Grants will also help fund a raft of free family friendly activities on Saturdays to draw locals into the town centre.

    Free Kids Yoga and Giant Games are on this Saturday 17 October at 10am and again at 10.30am

    Stage 2A (Tunbridge St to Fearn Ave)

    • Footpaths outside the surf shops and Sports Power is under demolition and the new exposed aggregate path construction will start next week.
    • The median strips are being built from Settlers Tavern car park towards Fearn Avenue.
    • Reticulation to the garden beds from Settlers Tavern to Riversmith is being installed.
    • Side entry pits at the Fearn Ave/Bussell Hwy/Willmott Ave intersection is under construction.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • 100% of the stormwater infrastructure, electrical services and irrigation sleeves are in!
    • Crews continue to work on the foundations for our new Festival Precinct, with the sub road base now done and the base course (the next layer of the road's pavement) underway.

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    • This stage is tracking well with the central and western stormwater system installed up to Priceline Pharmacy.
    • Installation of the new water main will be completed by next week.
    • Crews are continuing to connect stormwater pipes from businesses on the western side of Bussell Hwy into the new stormwater system.
    • Installation of electrical conduits and irrigation sleeves will continue up the road.
    • Work has begun to build the side entry pits on the eastern side of the road

    • Demolition of the old footpath outside the two surf shops and Sports Power will take place next week.
    • The median strip kerb will be built from Settlers tavern car park towards Fearn Avenue.

    • Crews are preparing the road surface to start constructing the small roundabout on Fearn Avenue near the entrance to the Coles car park and lane way connecting to Tunbridge Street.

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    Stage 3 is seeing two distinct items of work being undertaken: a new water main (to deliver water) being installed, and new storm water drainage being built.

    • The replacement of the water main is complete up to Town Square and will continue towards Wallcliffe roundabout next week.
    • Installation of the central stormwater pipe is up to Toyworld and will continue up the hill next week.

    • Footpaths have been constructed outside Riversmith (on the west side) and from the Bookshop to Westpac (on the east side) with cleaning due to take place after hours next week.
    • Demolition of the old footpath outside the surf shops is due to take place after school holidays.
    • The median strip kerb will be built from Settlers tavern car park towards Fearn Avenue.

    Stage 2B update (Fearn Avenue - New Festival Precinct )

    • Crews are continuing to prepare the basecourse for the road and pedestrian precinct area.
    • Aiming to complete storm water connections between businesses and the main system next week
    • We're getting closer to seeing some of the contours of the new Festival Precinct appear with edgebeam kerbing footings due for construction next week.

    Stage 3 (Willmott Ave to Wallcliffe Rd)

    Stage 3 is seeing two distinct items of work being undertaken: a new water main (to deliver water) being installed, and new storm water drainage being built.

    • The replacement of the water main is now moving up past Town Square towards Wallcliffe roundabout. This trench will be back-filled and construction of new storm water drainage is following along behind (now up to Chicken Treat).
    • Next week drainage crews will start working on stormwater connections to businesses from Fearn Ave heading up the hill on the west side.
    • Crews will also be installing electrical and irrigation sleeves for servicing garden beds and electrical needs in the later stages of the road works.
