Additional furnishings approved

Users of the Margaret River Youth Precinct are set to benefit from $179,000 of additional finishings when the main construction phase finishes in April 2018, thanks to an allocation of additional, and expedited funding, by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

Approved by Councillors at last week’s ordinary meeting, the decision makes way for the inclusion of a main shade structure for the Zone Room spill out area ($110,000), and nature play equipment, a slide, soft fall, turf, irrigation and additional trees ($69,000).

Shire Community Service Manager and project manager Nigel Anderson said the immediate implementation of the future staged elements during this construction works program would save funds in the longer term.

“This is a great outcome for the community – not only can those elements been delivered earlier, it will save additional labour costs associated with 'renovating’ the site at a later stage.”

Mr Anderson said the additional shading and play equipment would also make the park more usable for more people for longer periods of time and importantly connect the Zone Room with the Precinct and future commercial Cafe.

Both the shelters within the Precinct are iconic in form, the design resembling the formation and motion of a barrel wave.

Large rolled structure beams will be clad in waterproof cladding, with polycarbonate sunlit.

“I’m particularly pleased to be able to deliver the project with increased shading, both in terms of the permanent iconic shade structures and additional trees,” he said.

“It increased the usability of the site in hotter weather and provides more refuge for user and future Café patrons to take a break out of the sun.

“It’s a really responsible decision in terms of being sun safe and reducing possible of heat exposure.

“The additional nature based play and Parkour equipment is also a fantastic inclusion that will appeal and cater to a wider range of users at the Precinct.”

Shire President Pam Townshed said Council was committed to delivering an outstanding park for both the community and visitors to enjoy.

“I’m very pleased to offer Council’s backing for what will be a fantastic community precinct,” she said.

“This additional funding will take what was a great project park to a next level multipurpose facility that will really stand the test of time.”
