    The purpose of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy is to provide a strategic framework for planning projects, improving business structures and allocating resources towards environmental management and sustainability.

  • Second access route to Gracetown

    The State Government requested investigation into the potential route of secondary access to several coastal communities following the outcomes of the 2011 Keelty Report into the Margaret River Bushfires. Second access options are designed to provide alternative access and egress in the event of future emergencies, including bushfire.

    A Steering Group consisting of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, Main Roads WA, Department of Parks and Wildlife, and Department of Fire and Emergency Services has been appointed to consider the issues associated with providing a secondary access road to Gracetown. A Community Reference Group has also been established.

    The Shire received an application to use and develop land for the following purpose and public comments were invited before Monday 16 January 2017.

    • 24 hours, seven day a week operation
    • heavy vehicle/truck refuelling and access
    • access points from Roy Earl Drive and the internal access road to the east (‘Road Eight’ on site plan DA01)
    • ancillary food outlet (‘Wild Bean Café’).
    All submissions are currently being reviewed and a report will be provided to Council in due course....

    The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has developed a concept plan for upgrade works to Memorial Park in Margaret River. Located on the corner of Willmott Avenue and Townview Terrace, the upgrade is planned to commence in 2017.

    The Shire has funds allocated in this year’s budget to commence this project and it will take a number of years to complete. View this concept plan online here.

    During the first year of upgrades, the Shire will be building the pergola seating area as shown in the concept plan (reference number 12). There will also be minor landscaping to occur...

    This survey was open from the 7 November to 25 November to help the Shire prepare an Age Friendly Community Plan. The purpose of this plan is to identify age friendly features, barriers and suggestions for improvement.

    Two community workshops were also held in Augusta and Margaret River in late November.

    The feedback is currently being analysed and an update on next steps will be available soon.
