Recreation Centre Rearranges as Refurbishment Starts

19 August 2022

As the Shire of Augusta Margaret River prepares for works to commence on the refurbishment of the much-loved Margaret River Recreation Centre, users of the centre are asked to take note of several changes starting from Monday 22 August.

All Margaret River Recreation Centre members will be communicated with directly about how these changes affect their memberships including automatic discounts and extensions.

Monday 22 August – Sunday 4 September

  • Creche and OSHC

Those with children attending creche or Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) are asked to please park and enter from the front of the building, directly through the double doors into Kids Club. The main doors into the Recreation Centre will be closed.

  • Gym

The gym will be closed from Monday 22 August to Sunday 4 September while health and fitness equipment is relocated and internal building works take place.

  • Group Fitness and Court Sports

Group fitness and court sports users are asked to please park at the back of the Recreation Centre and enter the building through the white double external doors (rear of court 1). Change rooms will remain accessible during this time.

A modified group fitness timetable will be in effect from Monday 22 August to Sunday 4 September for classes in the Group Fitness room. Stay tuned to the Margaret River Recreation Centre’s website and Facebook page for details.

  • Customer Service

The front foyer and gym will not be accessible. Please enter through the rear of the Recreation Centre, or through Kids Club for creche and OSHC.

The Recreation Centre’s customer service team will be working from a relocated front counter, at the temporary entrance through Court 1. Kiosk items will remain the same, except for hot chips which won’t be available.

Monday 5 September Onwards

  • Creche and OSHC

Creche will be relocated to the nearby Scout Hall and OSHC will be relocated to the Margaret River Primary School for the remainder of the Recreation Centre refurbishment. Families who have children registered or enrolled will be directly provided with further information.

  • Gym and Group Fitness

All entrants to the Recreation Centre are asked to please park and enter through the back of the building. The relocated, temporary gym and group fitness classes will be available for users on Court 3 (the group fitness room will be closed).

  • Customer Service and Court Sports

Visitors and court sports users are asked to enter the building through the white double external doors at the rear of court 1, where the front counter will be.

Manager of Community, Sport and Recreation Dylan Brown thanked gym users for their understanding of the two-week gym closure and said he was pleased to facilitate continued services for creche, OSHC, group fitness and court sports. Mr Brown assured users of the centre they would be informed of any changes to the schedule that may occur.

“We’re right at the starting line of this exciting project to refurbish the Recreation Centre’s pool, gym and foyer areas for the years to come,” he said.

“As with any large project, there will be inevitable hurdles along the way, but we are committed to making it as smooth as possible for the community.”
