The Draft Age Friendly Community Plan 2023-2027 is now open for community feedback!


The Draft Age Friendly Community Plan 2023-2027 has been informed by feedback we received from seniors living in our community and the World Health Organisation Age Friendly Cites Framework.

The Plan outlines objectives and actions which will guide how the Shire provides meaningful support for seniors in our community over the next four years.

What is an Age Friendly Community?

An Age-Friendly community is one that recognises the great diversity among older people, promotes their inclusion and contribution in all areas of community life, respects their decisions and lifestyle choices and anticipates and responds to age related needs and preferences.

The World Health Organisation identifies 8 key areas that influence the quality of life and wellbeing for older people:

  • Outdoor spaces and buildings
  • Transport
  • Housing
  • Social participation
  • Respect and social inclusion
  • Civic participation and employment
  • Communication and information
  • Community support and health services
