How can we improve the safety of Wisteria Park Playspace?

We have been contacted by a local resident about road safety around Wisteria Playspace (outlined in red in image 1).

Image 1

The concern was in relation to the speed and amount of traffic on Brookfield Avenue and the impact this has on child safety.

To improve safety in the area, the Shire’s parks and gardens team have suggested that a physical barrier in the form of vegetated mounds between the park and Brookfield Avenue could be created. This has been useful in other areas (e.g. Wallcliffe Road near the Youth Precinct - see image 2).

The barrier would reduce areas where children can cross Brookfield Avenue from the playspace.

The location of the vegetated mounds are shown in image 3.

We are unable to build a mound around the light post and power transformer on the north-western corner of the grassed area. A flat garden bed could be built instead.

Our parks and gardens team have determined a fence around the playspace would not be suitable.
