We are seeking community feedback on the development of our Local Biodiversity Strategy.
The Strategy will identify and prioritise key environmental assets for protection and will include a Local Biodiversity Action Plan.
The Strategy aims to optimise community engagement, advocacy and partnership opportunities and create a culture of stewardship towards to the natural environment.
The Strategy will:
Identify and prioritise environmental assets for protection.
Map natural areas within the Shire identifying key habitat linkages and corridors.
Integrate biodiversity considerations into all areas of Shire business and decision-making.
Include actions to support private landholders in protecting natural areas.
Recognise the importance of the region as part of the International Southwest Biodiversity Hotspot and Busselton to Augusta National Biodiversity Hotspot.
Incorporate a Local Biodiversity Action Plan to guide our priorities and decision-making over the next 10 years.

Margaret River Community Workshop -Wednesday 21 February, 5pm to 7.30pm, Margaret River Council Chambers- 41 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River.
Margaret River Stakeholder Workshop - Thursday 22 February, 9am to 11:30am, Margaret River Council Chambers, 41 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River.
Please only register for the Margaret River Stakeholder Workshop if your organisation/community group has been identified as a stakeholder. All stakeholders have been notified via email.
Both community members and stakeholders are invited to attend the Augusta Community and Stakeholder Workshop and Margaret River Community Workshop.

Contributions to this consultation are closed for evaluation and review. A Draft Strategy will be developed based on community feedback received during the consultation period. We anticipate the Draft Strategy will be finalised by October 2024.
