TJover 3 years agoIntensive agriculture
Rezone more of the rural farmland within 10km of the to ecourage 1 & 2ha land parcels that people want to create small mixed crop sustainable farming practice. Not only would this be of economical beinfit, but it would lead to the revegetation of some of the broad acre clearing that was done in years past.

Many women have been stopped getting in the work force due the shortage of availability for their kids into the child care system. The Kids Club/ Vacation care has been a vital ( and some times the only) opportunity for mothers to be able to work and supporting their families. We need to look seriously at women’s real struggles in Margaret River.

0 comment0Jenniover 3 years agoReview of Cowaramup Village Strategy
There needs to be a review of the areas that surround the existing Cowaramup townsite. I own land that is categorized as Priority Agriculture, yet it cannot be farmed because of the size of the property (less than 6 hectares). Cowaramup is developing and more people want to come here and there is basically nothing available. Council should be looking at infill development.

BenWarnerover 3 years agoPreserve all natural bush
Any land that isn't already cleared should be preserved
4 comments6BenWarnerover 3 years agoRemove red tape and planning roadblocks
Reduce the amount of red tape and roadblocks for small businesses especially those that compliment the region and contribute to sustainability.
0 comment0haywardtomover 3 years agoPreserve the Rural, natural feel to the area.
Small town hubs, eg. Parkwater lots people don't know exist as it's hidden from the main areas. But don't clear bush to build them. Plant/screen areas.
1 comment2TAPover 3 years agoThe natural environment should be preserved for the next generation while also being able to easily access and enjoy it.
Look after beaches and natural environment and balance this with the ability to enjoy it. i.e. you cant get enjoy the beach if you cant get a carpark (Red Gate), you can't easily enjoy the beach or playgrounds with young kids if there's no shade etc
0 comment0Rivercottage2about 3 years agoWouldn't it be nice if...
Support for a younger demographic - affordable rental housing. Continued growth of the population - more new housing on good-sized blocks. A larger population in Augusta will result in the viability of more commercial services. We would like to see a bus service from Augusta to Margaret River, so that people are not dependent on a car. A boardwalk from Victoria Parade to the Augusta Town Jetty would do wonders for enabling access to the town - this would require the construction of a boardwalk into the river as some land is privately owned (as is the case with the southern boardwalk). Empty shops in Augusta town centre are an eyesore and a waste of existing infrastructure - reduce the rates? Shire-managed independent living units for seniors. Encourage more medical specialists to practise in Margaret River and Augusta by proving suitable premises. It's a major problem for a lot of people to attend appointments in Busselton and Bunbury. Extend the existing bike path to the lighthouse. The road is dangerous to cycle on. The Gnarabup Resort will be a major attraction, for locals and visitors alike. Cafes that are open after 3pm in the tourist season - what must our visitors think? Cafes with gardens - as in e.g. Nannup.

marcel reubenover 3 years agowhat makes this area special ?
Make the shire a world leading example on preserving "the wilderness" to quote David Attenborough. Every development should be made to improve the wilderness to assist native flora and fauna species to thrive.
0 comment3Still-hopingover 3 years agoFootpaths.
So much of the old development areas still have no footpaths after all these years. Might have worked once when Margaret River was a tiny hamlet, it’s not working now. Let’s genuinely encourage walking and pedestrians by building footpaths!
0 comment1Mover 3 years agoSeparate categories of planning approval for commercial use that might be contentious
Before land is even purchased, developers of service stations, fast food franchises etc. need to know planning conditions will be more stringent than other commercial enterprises. Much more weight given to environment, aesthetics and views of local residents.
0 comment0samanthaover 3 years agoDevelop Empty Farmland Not Native Bush
Most Farmland is already damaged. Rather than sub divide natural bush land, subdivide bare old degraded farmland. At least it can’t get any worse on that land. Could even improve it haha ?
0 comment0Cow Bombieabout 3 years agoPut a cap on the amount of short stay accommodation and limit the number of granny flats.
Our residential areas are becoming increasingly dense, the footprint of buildings are expanding as more and more build ancillary dwellings. This results in the loss of trees and gardens and the habitat they provide for wildlife. Whole house short stay accommodation disrupts our communities with noise.
