The purpose of this consultation is to find out if the community supports the development of a Renewable Energy Local Planning Policy.
We’ve developed an Issues and Options Paper to help shape the potential Renewable Energy Local Planning Policy. This is your chance to review the Paper and share your thoughts on what should be included in a future Policy.
The Policy would provide our community with an opportunity for input and guidance on any future proposed renewable energy projects as part of the assessment process.
The Shire anticipates receiving a development application for a large-scale wind farm, there will be a separate public consultation on this application.

The State and Commonwealth Governments have made commitments to reduce carbon emissions over the next decade and a large part of this commitment will be achieved by shifting electricity production to renewable sources.
The decision to approve the development of large scale renewable energy projects is usually made by the State Government but the Shire believes that by understanding community attitudes regarding renewable energy they can better represent its residents on this topic. This may result in a policy or similar document to guide Shire decisions.
